Every day, around 3,500 kids try a cigarette for the first time, and another 1,000 become new, regular daily smokers. This author believes in the protection of the American children and their health. This author believes that this new law is the strongest action the federal government has ever taken to reduce tobacco use. He states that this new law is a historic victory for the children and health of America. This author is writing for the campaign for tobacco-free children which shows that he supports this law and believes that the rights of the cigarette companies should not be restored. The author states that the cigarette companies have found a way around the previous regulations of other laws. This new law is said to be strict and clear enough that these companies will have no possible way around these new regulations. Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death in the U.S today. The author believes that if the advertising of teens is stopped then the amount of deaths due to cigarettes may decrease. Another way the author proves his point of view is stating that he applauds the decision of the courts to reject the latest attempt by Big Tobacco to avoid the new law. The author’s answer to my question is no because he is concerned for the health and protection of children and cigarette companies are targeting teens.

I was motivated to use this source because it used great detail and explanation for the author’s reasoning on his point of view. This source is valuable because it not only shows the point of view of the author, but also the views of those in the campaign. This source sheds light on the affects of this new law, which could help someone reading my paper construct an educated answer to my research question. A strength of this source is how the author emphasizes on the efforts of smoking on teens and also displays statics of the U.S. Statics make it easier for someone to connect and understand. When a reader connects with a source they are more likely to be persuaded by the author. Another thing that this source does well doing is displaying important and high ranking people that support this law. This source is an important one for someone to read if they feel as if they support this new law. This source could allow those readers to create a more educated answer on why they chose yes to my research question. Unlike some sources, this source is stating actual facts rather than just simple options and rumors.
